In Memoriam: Mike McWhirter

The Centre for Health & Sports Medicine is greatly saddened to report the loss of one of its Personal Training Consultant's, Mr. Mike McWhirter. Mike had been struck by an Amtrak train travelling in reverse, early Saturday morning, May 22nd/10. It was believed that Mike was listening to his I-Pod, with his headphones on, and wasn't able to hear the train or any warnings.

Mike was an exceptionally good Personal Trainer, and was loved by all those who were fortunate enough to have known him in any capacity. If you were around his age, you felt like his brother. If you were very much his senior, he would feel like he was your son. People who exercised with him would cherish the time that they spent with him.

Mike crossed a lot of people's paths over the years. He was also very involved with Personal Training @ York Racquets Tennis Club, in Toronto. This was a tragic loss, for so many reasons, but he is gone now, never to be forgotten. The image of his smiling face, his enthusiasm to help people, his blond locks, and good sense of humour are just a few of his wonderful character traits.

For those who knew his talents as a Personal Trainer, are lucky to have a great role model to aspire to be like. He has left us much too early, but like with every great person, it was such a great privilege to know him. We can only hope that he is working hard, and having a great time doing it, at the great celestial gym somewhere up above.

Thanks for touching our lives, Mike, from your teammates at the Centre!
