Dr. Winston is a Family and Sports Medicine physician practicing in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. He attended the University of Toronto for his undergraduate training before entering into Medicine at the same institution. He graduated and received his Doctor of Medicine in 1987. He completed his Postgraduate training in Family Medicine in 1989 from the University of Toronto. He is a member of the Faculty of the Department of Family and Community Medicine, University of Toronto, at the rank of Assistant Professor.
Dr. Winston is a member of the Canadian Academy of Sport & Exercise Medicine, and received his Diploma in Sport Medicine (Dip. Sport Med. (CASEM)) in 1995. This designation in Sport Medicine indicates competency in the practice of clinical Sport Medicine.
The distinction of Fellowship of the College of Family Physicians of Canada was bestowed upon Dr. Winston in October 2000 for his contribution to the teaching of Sports Medicine to physicians in training in Family Medicine.
As well, Dr. Winston was instrumental in helping to develop the primary care Sports Medicine Fellowship program, that is currently offered at the University of Toronto. He was the Program Director of the Toronto Primary Care Sports Medicine Fellowship program, which is offered through the Department of Family and Community Medicine at the University of Toronto (see Fellowship Programs under "Education"), from 1995-2005.
Dr. Winston's sports medicine practice is at the Centre for Health & Sports Medicine, located in North York, Ontario, where he also acts as the Centre's Medical Director.
Dr. Winston's strong roots to teaching are the reason why the motto for the Centre is, "Committed to Educate, Not Just Rehabilitate".
Dr. Winston is also very committed to the community's athletes, as he has represented Canada for medical support at many various local and international sporting events.
